Description
This delicate but spicy succulent plant hugs the sand and lava along Hawai’i coastlines. The briny flavor of the plump leaves makes a great addition to salads or as a tasty nibble on shoreline strolls. This Hawai’i native plant is in the portulaca family, a common plant found in many gardens. If you live in a coastal location, you can help this species survive by planting it in your yard or garden. The Hawai’ian periwinkle is often found clinging to lava rock in the splash zone along the shoreline.
